How to speed up Mozilla Firefox browser:

1.       Enabling pipelining Firefox

Including the Firefox browser usually sends a request to the server and then wait for a response before continuing. Pipelining is a technique that allows Firefox to send multiple requests before the response is received, and often this will speed up web page download time. To activate it, type about: config in the address bar, double click network.http.pipelining and network.http.proxy.pipelining that value or its value to true, then double-click network.http.pipelining.maxrequests and enter the value 8.

Keep in mind that some servers do not support pipelining, and if you visit lots of sites with the server then this trick can reduce performance. Restore network.http.pipelining and network.http.proxy.pipelining to a false value if you have a problem.

2.       Accelerate the appearance of Firefox

Pages are large and complex sites is quite time consuming to download. Firefox does not want to make you wait, so by default will display what it receives every 0.12 seconds (time interval). Although this will make Firefox feel faster, making the often will increase the total page load time, so the longer interval will improve performance.

Type about: config and press Enter, then right-click in the page that opens it and select New> Integer. Type content.notify.interval as the preference name, click OK, enter 500 000 (five hundred thousand) and click OK.

Right-click again on the page and select New> Boolean. This time content.notify.ontimer type and set the value to True.

3.       Speed up loading

If you are not moving the mouse or touch the keyboard for 0.75 seconds (content switch threshold) then Firefox enters a low frequency interrupt mode, which means its interface or its interface becomes less responsive but the pages load faster. Reducing the content switch threshold can accelerate the performance of Firefox.

Type about: config and press Enter, right click on the page and select New> Integer. Type content.switch.threshold, click OK, enter 250000 (a quarter of a second) and click OK.

4.       There was no interruption

You can tell Firefox to ignore user interface reports until the page finished downloading. This can be a bit drastic as Firefox tries to be unresponsive for a while, but just try it and see the results.

Type about: config, press Enter, right click and select New> Boolean. Type content.interrupt.parsing, click OK, set the value to False and click OK.

5.       Blocking flash

Flash animation is quite disturbing are ubiquitous, appearing in the content that you really want to read and slow down your browsing. Fortunately there is a very easy solution. Install the Flashblock extension (flash block.mozdev.org) and it'll block all Flash applets, so web pages are displayed more quickly. And if you look at the Flash content that is not totally useless, click the placeholder to download and view the Flash applet as usual.

6.       Increase the size of the cache

When you browse the web, Firefox stores images and scripts from these sites into the local cache memory, which can be quickly retrieved if you visit the same page. If you have lots of RAM (2 GB of more), leave Firefox running all the time and regularly return to pages then you can speed up performance by increasing this cache size.

Type about: config and press Enter, right-click on the page that opens and select New> Integer. Type browser.cache.memory.capacity, click OK, enter the value 65536 and click OK, then restart your browser to get a new, larger cache.

7.       Enabling TraceMonkey

TraceMonkey is a Firefox feature that converts slow Javascript into super quick x86-based scripts, allowing it to run some functions of up to 20 times faster than older versions.

You can try this feature to install it from ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/nightly/latest-trunk/, run and type about: config and press Enter. Type JIT in the filter box, then double-click javascript.options.jit.chrome and javascript.options.jit.content to change its value to true
